Protestors will take to the streets of Ballinasloe later this month over management changes at Portiuncula Hospital.

Minister for Health Mary Harney has decided to expand the role of the general manager of UHG to include responsibility for Portiuncula.

Despite assurances that the revamp will not result in a downgrading of the hospital, locals in Ballinasloe remain concerned.

Union officials will meet with members of the Town Council next week to discuss the issue.
