JUDGE VOWS TO PUT AN END TO GANG CULTURE IN ORANMORE

October 2, 2007 - 10:18am

Judge Mary Fahy has vowed to put an end to the gang culture and growing level of street violence occurring in Oranmore village

The Judge has warned she will deal severely with those found guilty of assaults and public order offences there from now on.

Judge Fahy said from now on she would deal personally with all such charges and would not allow Oranmore cases to be heard by visiting judges at special court sittings.

The judge made her comments while dealing with two men from the Oranmore area who were part of a gang which attacked and beat another man in the village over a year ago

She advised them to do their friends a favour and tell them of her attitude towards such behaviour.

21 year old Sean Kelly The Paddock, Maree and 22 year old Emmet Connolly Summerside, Maree Road, pleaded guilty to assaulting Donal O’Sullivan at Main Street, Oranmore, on September 24, 2006.
