WARD CLOSURE AT PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL BALLINASLOE
December 12, 2007 - 6:50pmA surgical and gynaecology ward at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinalsoe is to close this weekend due to staffing shortages in other parts of the hospital.
St. Clare's is a 28 bed female ward that's serviced by 25 staff.
The nurses and other staff will now be dispersed to other wards after a moritorium on staff hiring and there's no indication when St. Clare's will re-open
Local Town Councillor Jason Devlin is concerned about the consequences of the closure
