SBB ina Shuí Arís promises a great night of music and song
February 17, 2012 - 8:00amBroadcaster Seán Bán Breathnach returns to the city’s Town Hall Theatre this Saturday, February 16 with a live version of SBB ina Shuí Arís, the programme he presented on RTÉ from 1976 to 1982.
SBB ina Shuí Arís is a variety show featuring top-class traditional and contemporary singers, musicians and dancers.
Performers include singer Matt Keane, a member of the acclaimed Keane family of Caherlistrane He is joined by London based singer Heidi McCaffrey, whose latest album, Come On In is receiving lots of air play at present. Heidi received a tremendous reception on her last outing in Galway as part of this show.
From Roscommon comes the internationally acclaimed fiddle and banjo player John Carty. London born John who has played alongside all the 'greats' on the traditional scene, is joined on stage by his daughter Maggie, who is regarded as one of the leading young exponents of the banjo in Ireland today.
Also on the bill is Galway Bay Radio presenter and former showband star Jimmy Higgins, one of the best trumpet players in Ireland. The Tuam man also enjoyed great success with his best selling showband book Are Ye The Band?.
From RTÉ’s All-Ireland Talent Show comes champion sean-nós dancer Emma O’Sullivan and ace accordionist Johnny O’Halloran. As well as her solo dancing, Emma will have her dance troupe on stage in part two of the show.
Des Kelly, who led the Capitol Showband to international fame in the 1960s, is also performing. In the Capitol Days, he had a number one hit with The Streets Of Baltimore. Still performing throughout the country, as well as presenting his show on Galway Bay fm, Des will bring his unique country style to SBB ina Shuí Arís on Saturday night.
From Carna comes one of the purest voices in the country – the widely acclaimed sean-nós singer Seosamh Ó Flaharta and completing the bill are The Dreams. As well as playing their own high energy set The Dreams will provide the backing for the acts on Saturday night.
