NEW CLAMPING LAWS TO BENEFIT GALWAY
March 29, 2012 - 9:12amThe Chairperson of the national transport committee says new laws on clamping is 'good news for Galway'.
The Oireachtas Committee on Transport will present a report later this morning, outlining its recommendations as to what regulations should be introduced.
It's expected to recommend that all clampers be Garda-vetted, trained appropriately, centrally registered, and wear recognisable uniforms.
The report also recommends that clampers should give warnings to car owners before clamping a vehicle.
Current clamping in the city is the work of private companies, and is outside of the council's remit.
Chairperson of the transport committee and Labour TD Ciaran Lynch, says the fear of clamping is impacting people's shopping habits.
