CALL FOR IMPROVED PARKING MANAGEMENT AT CITY BEACHES
Galway City councillor Niall McNelis has called for better parking mangement at city beaches.
He said children were being put at risk by cars having to mount the footpath at Ballyloughane beach, when passing cars parked on double yellow lines on narrow roads leading to the popular beach.
A car park at Ballyloughane beach remains locked, during a week of unprecedented sunshine, which councillor McNelis says is not good enough.
He said residents are unable to access their homes, and that emergency services cannot access the beaches. Last year, an ambulance was unable to gain access to Silver Strand beach.
Councillor McNelis said there is a role for community gardai to assist in traffic management on sunny days.
