CONNEMARA WINDFARM OPPONENTS PUSH TO PRESENT NEW BILL
July 24, 2012 - 5:32pmA community group against the location of wind-turbine developments in the Connemara area has asked for an opportunity to address Galway County Council on a new Bill.
The Knockalough Community Group has made a representation to the local authority with a request to present a new Windturbine Bill that is to be considered by the Oireachtas.
At this month's meeting of the local authority, the Bill was considered and referred to the Planning Stategic Policy Committee.
Director of Services Kevin Kelly says members will await the outcome of the Bill's progression through the Oireachtas but for now must work with the existing Wind Energy Strategy:
Meanwhile, Senator John Kelly who tabled the Bill says a meeting has also been secured in September to discuss the possibility of dealing with the setback distance issue through a statutory instrument.
