Strange Brew offer unique blend of rock and electric blues
August 3, 2012 - 7:00amStrange Brew play Monroe's Backstage Bar on Thursday next, August 9. Now based in Roscommon, but originally from various parts of Europe, the members of Strange Brew offer a unique blend of electric blues and rock.
Lead vocalist, Romek 'Shorty' was born in Gdansk and became a professional singer in 1990. He played, recorded and toured in Poland with several bands singing jazz, swing, soul and blues but most notably with the Mietek Blues Band with whom he recorded several highly acclaimed albums. He came to Ireland in 2007 playing with Dublin bands,Travellin Salt and Greystone before joining Strange Brew.
Guitarist, Simon, comes from North London and grew up listening to and immersing himself in the London music scene of the 70's where took up guitar. He formed the Rhythmn 'n Blues band, Mojo Chill'n n the late 1990s playing the clubs and pubs around the Midlands in England.
Roscommon native and drummer, Gary has played in several bands including The Fridge and alternative rock band Sinnuendo, he resumed his music career when Strange Brew was formed.
Astrid was born in Gibraltar on the southern most tip of Spain and moved with her family to England in the early 70's. She taught herself to play the ukelele aged 10 and formed the band Skyriders, moving on to play the bass, she joined Mojo Chill'n and joined Strange Brew in 2011.
Strange Brew was formed officially in the autumn of 2011. With the member’ catchy choice of songs and a twist on some classic standards, they deliver their music with energy and enthusiasm to deliver a night of fun and rockin' entertainment.
