THE Fine Gael Senator, whose car was seized last month for not having a valid tax disc, has apologised to the public and the Gardai for what she described as ‘an oversight’.

The issue had come into the public domain earlier this week when an email was circulated to local and national media outlets, giving a ‘tip-off’ concerning the car owned by Senator Fidelma Healy Eames.

In a statement issued to the Galway City Tribune yesterday, Senator Healy Eames, confirmed that the incident had taken place and that her car didn’t have a valid tax disc when stopped by Gardai on July 2 last.

“This was due to an oversight by myself. I was completely in the wrong. The car is now taxed. I wish to apologise to the Gardaí and the public,” Senator Healy Eames stated.

While Fine Gael are making no official comment on the incident, there has been considerable speculation within the party about a ‘dirty tricks’ campaign being orchestrated against the Oranmore senator.
