OVER 13 HUNDRED GALWAY DRIVERS PENALISED FOR SEAT BELT OFFENCES
August 3, 2012 - 5:45pmOne thousand 384 Galway drivers have incurred penalty points in the first six months of this year for seat belt and child restraint related offences.
The figures compiled by the Road Safety Authority show 1 thousand and 88 Galway drivers were penalised for failing to wear a seatbelt for the period between January to June.
121 incurred points for having no rear seat child safety belt and a further 45 for failure to have the equivalent front seat child safety belt.
85 more drivers gained points for having no rear sear child restraint and a further 45 for having no front seat child restraint.
The figures come as new driving offences for people who fail to use seatbelts or the correct restraints on children in cars will come into effect this weekend.
