CONNEMARA RIVER TO CLOSE FROM SALMON FISHING

December 31, 2008 - 1:08pm

New restrictions on angling have been imposed on a Salmon river in Connemara.

The river Furnace near Screebe, which has been open for angling on a "catch and release" basis, will be closed next year.

According to today's Irish Times, survival rates for Irish Wild Salmon are at their lowest records since the 1980s.

Minister of State with responsibility for Natural Resources, Seán Power, says the new regulations and bye-laws for 11 salmon rivers will come into effect from tomorrow.
