RTE programme on Shop St reawakens memories
January 20, 2009 - 11:26amA NEW series on RTÉ which takes a trip down memory lane on some of the most famous streets in Ireland will focus on Galway this week with a look back at the memories and the key events that have been experienced by those who have lived or worked on Shop Street over the years.
The second in the series On The Street Where You Live will be broadcast on RTÉ 1 this Friday, January 23, at 7.30pm and takes a look at Shop Street. The programme will feature a number of interviews with people whose lives have revolved around Shop Street, including Mary Bennett, Jimmy Griffin and Pat McPhilpin.
Mary Bennett moved from Clare to Galway in the late 1950s. She has managed to build a business empire up from a souvenir stall in the Great Southern Hotel to a much sought after store, The Treasure Chest, off William Street.
