GALWAY ASYLUM SEEKERS THREATEN HUNGER STRIKE
March 6, 2009 - 4:44pmAsylum seekers in Clifden are threatening to go on hunger strike if they are not transferred from their lodgings.
Families staying at the Dun Gibbons Hostel in Clifden have threatened the Minister for Justice that they will go on hunger strike on Monday if they are not moved from the hostel
Last month, almost 40 asylum seekers travelled from Clifden to the Department of Justice to hand in a letter of complaint about their lodgings.
According to a Department spokesperson the letter made claims of victimisation and bullying at the Hostel.
The group also made a number of other complaints about the centre, including that the food was boring, the bed linen was not cleaned regularly, and that there were no toys for children.
