Eyre Sq camp

Were we brave enough, we should join them. I cannot express my admiration for the protestors enough. I wish them well.

Occupy camp

The camp should be allowed to remain; they are doing nothing wrong and why can't I vote in this poll, link not working

They should be allowed to exercise their right to protest

The question of 'what should be done' is irrelevant. As long as they are breaking no laws they have a right to remain. The image of Galway is damaged much more by the hordes of drunken students that rampage through the square every night, breaking bottles, shouting obscenities at each other and kicking over every rubbish bin in sight. Residents and tourists alike are afraid to go near the square after 10pm at night and workers in the local Daybreak and Supermacs store are regularly intimidated.
Occupy Galway are exercising their right to protest, they have support from the local population and visitors to the town. If more people spoke up maybe the country wouldn't be in the state it is in now.

Occupy Galway

We are so lucky to have such a peaceful and informed group working on our behalf. We can't all be there; but they have our support.
I hope they stay as long as it takes to replace the corruption so prevalent in our country! That includes the control on our media!

Nothing - The camp should be

Nothing - The camp should be allowed remain

nothing should be done - occupy galway pol

i want to vote for nothing to be done but i cannot vote online. why is this happening? this pol cannot truely reflect the support for the protesters. i question the authenticity of this pol!

Occupy movement

This country (Ireland) as far as i can see is a democracy and people have the right to protest as long as it is not done violently and respect is shown towards those that dont agree with this movenment .if this occupation is ceased by the Gardai or the Council but the people still want to protest in Galway City ,where else in Galway can the protester protest in a similar manner .The Answer is there is none ,SO I SAY LET THEM PROTEST IN THE SQUARE.aS LONG AS THEY CLEAN AND TIDY THE AREA EACH DAY .

occupy poll vote

I am trying to vote for nothing to be done to the occupy camp but your system is not allowing me. Is there some kind of agenda in which you are trying to stop people who support the camp from voting? Is this poll truly reflecting how much support there is in galway for the camp?

Giddup outa that!

Giddup outa that!

Nice to see a slight majority

Nice to see a slight majority of open-minded/intelligent people in Galway

occupy galway camp

i am proud to say that Galway has an "occupy" camp, and that our city has joined in the global movement of caring, & against the system of putting greed and profit before the needs of people & planet!

Occupy Galway Camp

Let them stay-they are actually actively doing something about the things that we are all thinking....and they have the force of a world wide movement behind them. Good on them!

why hasn't my comment from yesterday been put up?

as far as i can see there was nothing controversial in it and it should have been passed by a moderator at this stage??

or it a case that you don't really want to see people having a voice at all?

informed involved infront

indeed!!

only people with a vested

only people with a vested interest in the maintainence of the status quo want the camp removed. I am grateful to all of the people in Occupy Galway for the stance they are taking on behlaf of me and my family. Leave the camp alone! I will be noting carefully which politicians are supportive of Occupy Galway and which are not, and this will be important in deciding how i vote in upcoming elections.

eyre sq

what gives anyone the right to think they can interfere with a protest and another persons beliefs and right to assemble.
why are we wasting time with the Square issue and ignoring asking questions about the present and future direction of our country and society and the damage caused and still being caused by the Monied and Business class. We havent learnt to look at the big picture and were still playing their game by arguing amongst ourselves instead of asking whats the best way to proceed to empower ourselves and future generations.Everything else is pointless talk unless this happens..

remove them, they are an eye

remove them, they are an eye sore.

#Occupy are wrong.

#Occupy movement embodies jealousy. They wouldn't be there if they had a good job with a good salary would they?

Occupy camp

It should be supported. We need to begin to devise fresh solutions to what is not a local, but a global problem. The corallary to 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' is that when it is not functioning, it needs addressing.
Our governments are unanimous in allowing external financial programs be implemented, a desertion of democratic responsibility to serve us, the electorate, not ask our children to emigrate to pay for the fraudulant activities of their predecessors.
Their policies(and again, its global)are suppressing, not reviving economic activity. We need new paradigms of economics to replace the again failed imperial model which, as the protest recognises with its 1%/99% signal has reached a reductio ad absurdum nadir. As we can see, the imperial centres, under the aegis of NATO are resorting to the usual solution, war-business as usual. Given the technology, we can no longer afford that resort, though the 1%(who are gamblers by nature, as we all are)will gladly unleash the technology on the resource location nations in an effort to squeeze yet more blood from what they consider their global stone.

What should be done about the protesters' camp in Eyre Square

its a stupid question really "What should be done about the protesters' camp in Eyre Square" The very question is posed to provoke a negative opinion about the camp. What should be done?? how about more support from the people complain about banks, tax's and yes...protesting! the same people living in this very same country as those that are fighting for their rights!! How about the over payed, over pampered and over opinionated people in his country actually forget their ego for just one second, do some research that doesn't involve sitting in front of the tv watching rte news, questions and answers or pat kenny and realize we are all on the same rock! Anyways, i voted obviously for the camp to stay, as the only other option i had was to get the guards to act. typical politically poised question with only two options, nowhere was their a "get off you're arse and support them" option!! Why should anything be done about them, thats rediculous!!

a point worth making?

the Garda have stated on numerous occasions (if im wrong please correct me) that the camp are breaking no laws so why would they move them on?

there's only 2/3 outspoken councillors speaking out against this movement for their own personal reasons and thankfully their views are in the minority up in College Road!!

2012 will be our year!!

Keep her lit.

Keep her lit.

Occupy Galway

They should be let stay, They are the only ones that will stand up and protest!

The camp

Do nothing. They are doing no harm and have a right to protest. We are not one of those countries who deny our people the right to protest.

there is no law against

there is no law against protesting. this isnt north korea, yet!

Let the protesters stay

Let the protesters stay

Anti Democratic

What sort of people would vote to have these peaceful, socially aware protestors removed? is that the type of society we want? I am not one bit surprised that the bankers and politicians are allowed to get away with so much when the ones trying to highlight the plight of the needy and the abundance of top level fraud are being even mentioned when it comes to removing their democratic right to protest.
Perhaps a more pertinent question should be " Should the parasites in Dáil Éireann be removed?" "Should we stop paying for their iPhones and dry cleaning bills?" We as a nation need to stand up straight and if we are not willing to highlight the issues the least we can do is respect those who will take a stand.

eyre square prostesters

are they eligible for a fas scheme

Occupy Galway

Why should it be removed? They are only doing what everyone else is complaining about and doing nothing about. I think the occupy groups should create a bit more of a powerful stance. Clearly the movement is global and could become a strong political group if desired.

Protesters Camp

Charge them rent and for any litter they cause !

Occupy Camp - comment by Paula

The camp should be tidied up and those ugly looking pallets removed. As someone who supports the Occupy movement the physical appearance of the camps are positively offputting and I don't feel comfortable being near them or attempting to enter into discussion with them. This impression is not confined to the Galway camp.
Presentation of the argument is 90% of the battle.

Peaceful Protest

If we had no idealism left we would be much less capable of creating a future for ourselves.

Protestors Camp on Eyre Square

What are these people living on. Obviously they are not working so they must have loads of money that they can stay there for so long. If they are drawing social welfare and are camping out there day after day they are obviously not available for work and are therefore should not be getting s.w. How many of them are there.

protesters' camp in Eyre Square

Support them every last person in Galway and Ireland

People of Galway and Ireland

People of Galway and Ireland get out and support them in every way

re not the state of the country but the mindset of us the Irish

At least they are doing something not taking the s... that is being doled out to us every day by those elected morons. We now need to dispand with politicians as we know them and get qualified people in to run each department. What other job would hire a totally unqualified person to do the job. What a nice way to commemorate the 1916 rising ..... under the control of Germany. We are too docile in this country. I am not inciting voilence it gets us nowhere but the lack of patriotism in this country is mind-boggling and we act like dumb driven cattle when it comes to voting etc. No one able to think for themselves in this country. When we finally wake up it will be too late.....................
